Druing May of 2009, the Port installed a kayak launch dock near the crabbing floats that allows kayakers to get in and out of the kayak while high and dry on the dock.  A kayak easily slides off the dock with little effort and no upsets.  The purchase of this dock was made possible by a Local Government Grant from Oregon Parks & Recreation Department.

Last year, the Port of Alsea received a grant for technical assistance from the National Park Service Rivers, Trails and Conservation Assistance Program for developing a water trail plan for the Alsea estuary.  The Alsea River Water Trail Guide has been developed and is now available.  The Port received support for this project from Oregon Parks and Recreation Department, the Siuslaw National Forest, the Community Sevices Consortium of Lincoln County, Ten Mile National Audubon Society, the City of Waldport, and many other interested parties.

The Port has just completed the design and engineering for a public safety facility building that will house the water rescue equipment for Central Oregon Coast Fire & Rescue Disctrict, a shop, office space, and residence for a round the clock caretaker.  Cost sharing and cooperative maintenance of this facility by the Port and Fire District will provide an efficient, cost effective public service.  The next step in this project is to secure funding for the construction of the building.
